‘How We Got To…’ New GTG publication launches!

Published on 5 June 2025

With beautiful colour images and a chronology of 25 years of contemporary art exhibitions in Belfast, this new book is a very special insight and illumination of the Golden Thread Gallery’s story… or at least, one key perspective on our story so far.

Gallery Co-Director and author of the book Peter Richards says:

“How we got to… sets out to bring you with us on a journey through the Golden Thread Gallery’s histories, from our beginnings on the Crumlin Road in 1998, all the way to our latest iteration in our new home at the heart of Belfast.

Our experience of the ways that shadows from history extend into the present has informed how we create opportunities for all of us to reflect on the past, reconsider the present, and reimagine the future. At the foundation of all we do is our approach to exhibition making. We make exhibitions that create opportunities to: see things from another point of view, that tackle difficult questions, that challenge social injustice and that come together to celebrate and inspire.”

Available now from the gallery bookshop and from The Library Project in Temple Bar, Dublin. Sales go to support the gallery’s work with artists and communities.
