All Aboard for Art!
Saturday 16th August 1-4pm, free
Translink and Golden Thread Gallery invite the public to get creative and enjoy Fuzzy Felt Fun at Grand Central Station
Translink and Golden Thread Gallery invite you to hop on board for a free, hands-on fuzzy felt art experience exploring the stories of travel by bus and train across Belfast and beyond.
From 1–4pm on Saturday 16th August, the station’s concourse will be transformed into a giant canvas of colour and imagination.
Louise Doyle, Station Manager at Grand Central Station explained, “This work is part of our ongoing arts and heritage programme which aims to capture and celebrate the many stories of connection and opportunities that travelling by bus and train has enabled. Whether you’re just passing through or planning to stay a while, everyone is welcome to help build a collaborative fuzzy felt landscape inspired by journeys, destinations, and the people who make them”.
Sarah McAvera, Co-Director of Golden Thread Gallery said, “We are looking forward to engaging with the community and passengers. We will provide all the materials, with lots of colour and texture to inspire… so, you only need to bring your imagination. This drop-in activity is open to all ages and abilities, with accessibility arrangements in place including support for wheelchair users”.
- On the go? Grab a pre-cut design and add your piece to the artwork in minutes.
- Got time to create? Sit down with our artists and craft your own shapes and stories.
- Need support? We’ll have prompts, materials, and friendly faces to guide you.
“And there’s more to come — this is just one of a series of free creative workshops at Grand Central Station, designed to bring people together through art and celebrate the role of public transport in connecting communities”, Sarah concluded.
So, whether you’re catching a bus, coach, train, or simply curious — come along and help us turn travel into art!
