Co-Motion was the inaugural exhibition of the Golden Thread Gallery, marking the beginning of the gallery’s commitment to supporting emerging contemporary artists and creating opportunities for artistic exchange in Belfast.
Featuring work by Gail Prentice, founder of the Golden Thread Gallery, alongside fellow recent graduates of the Art School, Belfast (Ulster University) Jim Crossan, Karen Chivero, and Mary Theresa Keown, the exhibition brought together a diverse range of artistic practices and perspectives. Through painting, installation, sculpture, and mixed-media approaches, Co-Motion reflected the energy, experimentation, and ambition of a new generation of artists emerging from Northern Ireland at a time of significant social and cultural change.
Presented in the gallery’s original home in a former linen mill on the Crumlin Road, Co-Motion established many of the principles that would continue to shape the Golden Thread Gallery’s programme: a commitment to contemporary practice, support for artists at key stages in their careers, and the creation of a space where ideas, experiences, and communities could come together through art.
