Our Exhibitions Officer Mary Stevens was in Paris last week on a research trip, and to meet with Fondation Louis Vuitton and Galerie Perrotin, our partners on the upcoming exhibition, ‘Beyond the Gaze – Shared Perspectives‘. The exhibition will bring work by French artist Sophie Calle, one of the most celebrated and influential conceptual artists in the world, to audiences in Northern Ireland for the first time. The exhibition presents video works (Voir la Mer, 2011) and photographic pieces (L’Hôtel, 1981-1983).
At the Fondation Louis Vuitton in the Bois de Boulogne, Mary enjoyed a stunning exhibition of paintings by David Hockney. ‘David Hockney 25‘ takes over the entire building, bringing together more than 400 of the artist’s works.
And at the beautiful Galerie Perrotin in the Marais district, Mary was able to see other works by Sophie Calle in ‘Séance de rattrapage’, an exhibition of work by the artist from 2023.
Mary also visited the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, where she met with Rosetta Beaugendre, CCI Head of Communications and Public Relations. The CCI and GTG have partnered this year to offer a one-month residency for an NI based visual artist, which was awarded to Paola Bernardelli.
Mary’s trip included visits to the Palais de Tokyo and Musée d’Art Moderne.
And, of course, despite her packed schedule, she made sure to include time to eat some pastries! Magnifique, non?
