Ciara Finnegan studied Fine Art at the University of Ulster and Interactive Media at the University of Limerick. Her performance and video works explore some of the quirks and absurdities of human behaviour that underline many of our more serious activities.
Finnegan’s current practice, stimulated by a curiosity about language and the mechanics of speech, focuses on the act of ventriloquism and uses this as a means to examine aspects of performance – namely, the creation of character, acting, issues of agency and the responsibility of the speaker. The video works in this series are created in collaboration with her young sons and her ventriloquist doll, Oscar.
